Marrakech International Biennale: contemporary art in all its forms
Hotels, riads and galleries - the second contemporary art biennale is coming to Marrakech.
From 16th to 19th December, exhibitions and seminars will give art lovers a rewarding journey through contemporary creativity.
The festivities will begin with the Salon d’Hiver. This year, this section of the Marrakech International Biennale aims to introduce the public to innovative artistic practices including installations and videos. Guest artists have been invited from Morocco, Iraq and France.
A series of opening events will be held over four days. These begin with a photography exhibition by Catherine Bendayan in Dar Chérifa. Opening events will then take place for Ahmed Ben Ismael at the Galerie Noir sur Blanc, for Larbi Cherkaoui at the David Bloch Gallery and for Sahbi Chtioui at the Sofitel.
Consideration of art will also have a place. Researchers, critics and academics will take part in a seminar focussing on Abdelkébir Khatibi whose writings strongly influenced Moroccan creativity.

Not to miss in Marrakech
Sarah Moon, a photographer beyond fashion
The Galerie 127, which specializes in photography, will be exhibiting works by Sarah Moon until 29th January 2011. This French photographer, born in 1941, became famous in the 1970s with her advertising images and films for Cacharel, Dior and Chanel. Her more personal work reveals her interest in femininity and memory. Her photos are often deliberately aged.
Morocco through the creations of Yves Saint-Laurent
Morocco was an inspiration to Yves Saint-Laurent. From the 27th of November to the 18th of March 2011, an exhibition at the Majorelle Garden Museum in Marrakech assembles 44 of his creations with cuts and colours inspired by the country he adored and its sartorial traditions. An initiative by Pierre Bergé, this event is a fine tribute from Yves Saint Laurent to the inhabitants of Morocco, the sky of Marrakech and to its colours and light.
