22nd Marathon: discover Marrakech while running!
It is one of the most prestigious marathons in the world. With some 5000 participants, the International Marathon of Marrakech is a leading event for urban runners from around the world.
The 22nd race will take place on Sunday 30th January, 2011. The runners taking part in this important sporting event have a lot to look forward to.
Its route is reputed to be the fastest of any international marathon. The climate for the race is mild, with unrivalled organization and above all a magnificent route passing through exceptional scenery, including the Menara olive grove, the Agdal gardens, the palm grove, the ramparts of the Medina... and beneath the snowy peaks of the Atlas mountain range. A very original way of exploring the city!
As last year, a children’s race is being held on Saturday 29th January for 10-13 year olds, with 1500 young entrants expected, mostly selected from schools in the region.

When storytelling meets cinema and photography
Marrakech certainly loves cinema! Until 3rd February 2011, the Maison de la Photographie is organizing an exhibition entitled "Parole contées, paroles filmées" (Spoken stories, filmed stories) combining photography, cinema and storytelling. Visitors will find old cinema posters of French films, original photographs of Morocco and its famous Place Jemaa el fna storytellers from 1870 to 1950, and will be able to attend the screening of Thomas Ladenburger’s documentary film, La Halqa.
Morocco through the creations of Yves Saint-Laurent
Morocco was an inspiration to Yves Saint-Laurent. From the 27th of November to the 18th of March 2011, an exhibition at the Majorelle Garden Museum in Marrakech assembles 44 of his creations with cuts and colours inspired by the country he adored and its sartorial traditions. An initiative by Pierre Bergé, this event is a fine tribute from Yves Saint Laurent to the inhabitants of Morocco, the sky of Marrakech and to its colours and light.
